First established as the Institute for Youth Development South Africa (IYDSA) in 2003, Beyond Zero began its work at the forefront of HIV/AIDS/TB service delivery in the Eastern Cape Province working in 18 clinics with a handful of dedicated staff.
Today, Beyond Zero’s team of 150-plus staff and approximately 270 supported Department of Health (DoH) essential personnel work in or provide technical assistance to 430 primary health care clinics, community health centers, and district and TB hospitals in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu Natal provinces.
We collaborate closely with and enhance the management capacity of 18 sub-districts, five districts and two provincial DoH management teams.
We cultivate public health service delivery excellence through our pioneering work in health workforce mentoring, particularly in Nurse Initiated and Managed Anti-Retroviral Therapy (NIMART).

Chief Executive Officer
Currently the CEO at Beyond Zero, Kimberly has been developing and leading complex public health programs in diverse international settings for over 17 years. She has led disaster response programs in several conflict zones including South Sudan, Palestine, and East Timor.
Kimberly holds degrees and accreditations in international economics, emergency nursing, and public health from U.S.-based universities: Georgetown University, Excelsior College and the University of Hawaii.
Dr Dion Nortje
Within the position of Deputy CEO at Beyond Zero Dion has cultivated his research interests involving the use of technology in as a means for learning in the context of the NIMART program and treatment failure.
Dion’s achievements include M.B.B.Ch, M.Med (Fam Med) as well as formal training in numerous relevant fields of study.
Chief Operations Officer
Phillip Mokoena is currently Beyond Zero’s Chief Operations Officer (COO). He has over 10 years work experience within the health and human rights sector.
Phillip has also served on a number of provincial, national and international committees including the Provincial AIDS Council in the Eastern Cape, Secretariat of the Provincial AIDS Council for KZN, South African National AIDS Council Resource Mobilisation Committee among others.
Dr Sisanda Gaga
Director: All Programmes
Dr Sisanda Gaga currently serves as the Programmes Director at Beyond Zero. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Natal in 1990. This was followed by an internship at Cecilia Makiwane Hospital in the Eastern Cape. Post internship, she worked for 15 years as a general practitioner in KwaMhlanga. She then established a medical consulting company focusing on HIV and TB training of nurses and doctors, as well as qualitative and quantitative research on HIV and TB for six years. In 2010, she joined the NGO sector as a regional clinical manager at IYDSA.
Director: Finance & Administration
Dominic Lahoud currently serves as the Director of Finance and Administration at Beyond Zero and supervises the management of the financial, payroll and administrative management systems.
He holds two qualifications with the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Chartered Institute of Management Accounts respectively.
Director: Human Resources
Fuyani Mlomzale currently serves as the Director for Human Resources at Beyond Zero. His position manages the strategic direction of Human Resources including recruitment and employee placements, employment equity of staff, training and development of staff, remuneration and benefits management, employee relations and organisation’s adherence to all current labour legislation among many other things.
Fuyani holds a Bachelor of Administration degree in Human Resources, a Diploma in Labour Law through the Graduate Institution of Management & Technology and a Diploma in Theology though Loins Gate Bible College

PEPFAR is driven by a shared responsibility among donor and partner nations and others to make smart investments to save lives.
PEPFAR is the cornerstone and largest component of the U.S. President’s Global Health Initiative. With a special focus on improving the health of women, newborns and children, the Global Health Initiative’s goal is to save the greatest number of lives by increasing and building upon what works and, then, supporting countries as they work to improve the health of their own people.
